Volunteer

We warmly welcome all who feel called to share their time, talents, and hearts with the Xavier Learning Community. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and corners of the world, yet are united by a common desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who deserve every opportunity to flourish. Whether you are an educator, a mentor, a professional, or simply someone with a generous spirit, there is a place for you here — and together, we can walk alongside our students on their journey toward a brighter and more hopeful future.

Hightlight of Our Volunteers

  • A group of college graduates celebrating teamwork and unity outdoors under a bright sky.
  • Happy graduate celebrating with bubbles in a sunny outdoor setting.
  • Smiling Asian woman in a school uniform standing outdoors on a balcony.
  • Group of five female graduates in gowns laughing and celebrating with joy.
  • Three graduates celebrating outside a contemporary building with diplomas in hand.
  • Three graduates in caps and gowns celebrating together outdoors near a modern building.

Make a Difference through Volunteering

At Xavier Learning Community (XLC), volunteering is not simply about giving time—it is about accompaniment.
Located in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai, XLC is a Jesuit residential learning community that accompanies young people—especially from ethnic minority and disadvantaged backgrounds—on their journey toward education, leadership, and human flourishing.
When you volunteer at XLC, you become part of a community that believes in learning together, living simply, and serving with compassion.

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life who resonate with XLC’s mission and values. You do not need to be Catholic or religious. Many volunteers describe their time at XLC as transformative—not only for students, but for themselves.

Volunteers may include:

  • Educators, trainers, and tutors
  • Professionals offering specialised skills
  • Retreat facilitators or pastoral workers
  • University students, gap-year participants, and young adults
  • Individuals seeking a meaningful service experience

What matters most is a spirit of humility, respect, and willingness to journey with others.

What Can Volunteers Do?

Volunteer opportunities vary depending on current needs and may include:

  • Teaching or tutoring (e.g. languages, academic subjects, life skills)
  • Conducting workshops (leadership, communication, digital skills)
  • Supporting community activities and student formation
  • Supporting community activities and student formation
  • Assisting with administrative or project-based work

We strive to match volunteers’ skills with the real needs of the community to ensure a meaningful and mutually enriching experience.

How Long Can I Volunteer?

Volunteer commitments may range from:

Short-term visits (a few days or weeks), to
Longer-term placements (several months or more)

Longer stays are encouraged when possible, as they allow for deeper relationships and greater continuity.

A Spirit of Accompaniment

Volunteering at Xavier Learning Community is rooted in the Jesuit value of walking alongside others—listening, learning, and growing together.
You may arrive hoping to help, but often leave having been deeply changed.

Walk With Us

Each volunteer arrives with different skills, backgrounds, and motivations—but many leave with a shared experience of deep connection, personal growth, and renewed purpose. If you feel called to serve, learn, and journey with our students, we invite you to become part of the Xavier Learning Community story.
