Volunteering
Volunteering at Xavier Learning Community is rooted in the Jesuit value of walking alongside others—listening, learning, and growing together. You may arrive hoping to help, but often leave having been deeply changed.
Make a Difference through Volunteering
At Xavier Learning Community (XLC), volunteering is not simply about giving time—it is about accompaniment.
XLC is a Jesuit residential learning community that accompanies young people—especially from ethnic minority and disadvantaged backgrounds—on their journey toward education, leadership, and human flourishing.
When you volunteer at XLC, you become part of a community that believes in learning together, living simply, and serving with compassion.
Why Volunteer at Xavier Learning Community?
Volunteers play a vital role in shaping the daily life of XLC. By sharing your skills, experience, and presence, you help create a nurturing environment where students can grow academically, personally, and spiritually.
Volunteering at XLC offers:
Meaningful relationships with students and staff
The opportunity to contribute to education and social justice
The Immersion in a diverse, intercultural learning community
Who Can Volunteer?
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life who resonate with XLC’s mission and values. You do not need to be Catholic or religious. Many volunteers describe their time at XLC as transformative—not only for students, but for themselves.

Volunteers may include:
– Educators, trainers, and tutors
– Professionals offering specialised skills
– Retreat facilitators or pastoral workers
– University students, gap-year participants, and young adults
– Individuals seeking a meaningful service experience
What matters most is a spirit of humility, respect, and willingness to journey with others.
What Can Volunteers Do?
We strive to match volunteers’ skills with the real needs of the community to ensure a meaningful and mutually enriching experience.
Volunteer opportunities vary depending on current needs and may include:
How Long Can I Volunteer?
Volunteer commitments may range from:
Short-term visits (a few days or weeks), to
Longer-term placements (several months or more)
Longer stays are encouraged when possible, as they allow for deeper relationships and greater continuity.
Walk With Us
Each volunteer arrives with different skills, backgrounds, and motivations—but many leave with a shared experience of deep connection, personal growth, and renewed purpose. If you feel called to serve, learn, and journey with our students, we invite you to become part of the Xavier Learning Community story.
